Birding Itinerary
Day 1 – Nairobi to Lake Naivasha (Afternoon Bird Walk & Boat Ride)
Depart Nairobi after breakfast and head to scenic Lake Naivasha. Nestled in the Rift Valley, this freshwater lake supports abundant birdlife along its shores.
In the afternoon, enjoy a guided bird walk along the lakeshore followed by a boat ride. Look for African Fish Eagle perched on papyrus islands, Pied Kingfisher diving for fish, and cormorants drying their wings along the lakeside. Other species may include Malachite Kingfisher, African Jacana, and Purple Heron.
Overnight at a lakeside eco-lodge with stunning sunset views over the water.
Day 2 – Crescent Island Walking Safari & Papyrus Birding
After breakfast, take a walking safari on Crescent Island, an intimate wildlife sanctuary accessible by boat. On foot, you can quietly observe waterbirds, weavers, and other passerines in the company of grazing wildlife such as giraffes and zebras.
In the afternoon, explore nearby papyrus swamps, where rare species like Papyrus Gonolek, Carruthers’s Cisticola, and White-winged Swamp Warbler are often found. This combination of walking and wetland birding offers unparalleled close encounters with birds that are otherwise elusive.
Day 3 – Lake Naivasha to Lake Nakuru National Park
Travel to Lake Nakuru National Park Lake Baringo. This freshwater lake is a hotspot for northern Rift Valley species and provides a different birding experience.
Target northern specialties include Northern Carmine Bee-eater, White-headed Barbet, Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, and Northern White-faced Owl. The lakeshore papyrus and acacia woodland support African Fish Eagle, Malachite Kingfisher, and a variety of waterfowl. Afternoon boat rides and lakeside walks enhance species sightings.
Overnight at a comfortable lakeside lodge.

Choose your adventure: kite surfing, quad biking, jet skiing, or skydiving over Diani Beach. Alternatively, enjoy a peaceful day at the beach, a spa session, or a visit to the sacred Kaya Kinondo Forest. End the day with a romantic beach dinner.
